This comm was born because doing multi-state link roundups on kittydesade's journal alone for union-related legislation became too much for one person to handle.
Then it became too big for a shared doc.
The name comes from Murrow's speech, Wires and Lights in a Box; the relevant quote is, "This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires and lights in a box. There is a great and perhaps decisive battle to be fought against ignorance, intolerance and indifference. This weapon of television could be useful."
Public posts are edited roundups, with links, often multiple states, and commentary. adsartha and kittydesade and wwilliam47 are posting these at the moment. More roundup posters wanted! Member-locked posts are for collecting data in preparation for the next roundup.
Generally speaking, roundups happen Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They may occur on more days than these, or alternate days, depending on if we have enough links or if RL gets in the way. You do NOT have to be a member to read roundups; membership is restricted to people contributing to the comm.
Contact your mods on the welcome and staff post or at their personal journals if you want to know how you can help. If you do not comment here or on one of the unlocked posts within a week of requesting membership, we will assume you did not want it and will reject your request accordingly.
Note: If all you want to do is watch, then just add the comm to your flist. Membership is restricted to people who are participating in collecting links, writing analysis, and committing journalism.
This journal may contain adult concepts, like a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. Also snark.
